Take a quantum leap. Be the centre of your universe
“You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.” – Buddha
Is it your time to stop the endless search? Is it your time to decide that you are the centre of your universe and you choose to live your life this way from today?
A number of years ago I was working with a physiotherapist and one day we had a discussion about breaking the boundaries of self imposed limitations. By this we were referring to the limiting decisions some people make that keep them from living the life of their dreams. We realised that one of the most significant deciding factors in achieving a level of self potential was the decision on whether to be the centre of your own universe or to relinquish this to others. We decided to try on the choice to be the centre of our own universe.
First we discussed some definitions, so we had some scope on what we were approaching. A quantum leap is a sudden and highly significant advance or breakthrough. The universe is all existing matter and space considered as a whole. It is also the realm in which something exists. Approaching our lives in this way meant making some new choices that would impact all areas of our life.
Why do this? Being the centre of your own universe can be helpful in all areas of your life. At work it helps you to be assertive, know your direction and not take on other people’s problems as your own. It helps you to achieve your goals and be calm and measured. In relationships it helps you to be positive, self assured and to have an aura of confidence. It enables you to give without expectations and to receive without strings. It also helps you to fill the gaps by giving to yourself whenever you need to without any guilt. In health it helps you to look after your wellbeing and be accountable for your choices.
So how do you make yourself the centre of your own universe? You need a strategy and techniques. We chose 4 steps.
Step 1 – Make a list of all of the things you like, the things that make you happy and the things that are really important to you. Make sure that everything on this list relies on you and you alone. It needs to be all about you. Not about others or what others do for you. With this list choose your top ten not negotiable items.
Step 2 – With your top 10 in place. Consider how many of these priority items you are currently giving yourself everyday. If there are items on the list that you have as a desired outcome and are not experiencing right now highlight these.
Step 3 – Next ask yourself what you could do to move toward achieving the items that you are currently wanting to have in your life, and that are evading you. Remember this is about being the centre of your own universe, so if someone else is preventing you, then you need to see how you could be accountable for finding an avenue around this hurdle. This is about what you need to do for yourself, not what others need to do for you. Being the centre of your own universe means being at cause and taking responsibility for your own outcomes.
Step 4 – Brainstorm all the ideas that you could adopt to have more of what you want in your life. More of what will place you at the centre of your own universe. Then simplify to multiply. Take out your diary or year planner and fill in the activities that you commit to doing to be the centre of your own universe. Remember it’s about small steps and big rewards.
What if you find that you are way off target from living at the centre of your own universe? Speak to a trusted friend who may be able to give you some ideas on how you could move toward more of what you want in life. Make sure you choose a friend who is positive, caring and has him or herself achieved more of what you want. You could also look at doing some personal development work and this can be accessed through community, internet and short courses.
